Parenting? Don’t ask me!

The longer I’m a parent, the less I know about parenting

As a father of four, that might sound ridiculous. So, I am less inclined to give parenting advice.

If you listen to most teenagers, they know more about parenting than all of us put together.

You know more about parenting the first day you become one, than you will for the rest of your life.

Journal of a new blogger: Part 2 - Oh the technology!

Last week was the sort of week you get when you decide you are going to do something new. Everything conspires against you! But if you’re serious, you will survive those weeks, albeit feeling like you’ve taken one step back.
I had been working hard to get discussion forums up and running for my cricket blog […]

Why is telemarketing legal?

How is it that spam email is illegal, but spam phone calls (i.e. telemarketing) is not?
More people are offended and annoyed by telemarketing than spam. With spam you can limit it with spam filters, but there’s nothing you can do to filter spam telemarketing.
It’s time to make telemarketing illegal before they start ring up offering […]

You’re not all like me. If you’re lucky, none of you are. So this little piece of advice will be irrelevant.
Become a writer first, before you learn to write.
People like me, our personality type is obsessed with rules, logic and what is right. Problem is, that can be a huge stumbling block. We could study […]

Blossary: A glossary of blogging terms

So much mumbo jumbo when you get into blogging: blogs, trackbacks, pings, so I’ve started this Blossary. Feel free to post more in the comments. It will also contain descriptions of services - eg Technocrati, Adsense etc.

I hope you find it useful.

Why aren’t things always what they seem?

Look at this picture. The squares marked A and B are exactly the same shade of grey.
< %image(20050913-unknown.jpg|400|300|Optical Illusion)%>
Of course you don’t believe me. Open the image in an image editing program then cut square B, and place it next to square A. Or use the eye dropper tool to select each square’s color and […]

Journal of a New Blogger. Part 1

I started this blog back in early August 2005. It’s now mid September. I’ve decided to write of my experiences because mine are probably similar to a lot of others. So for someone thinking of starting a blog, hopefully they can read this and get both inspired and pragmatic about blogging. Hopefully not discouraged.
I don’t […]

Forbes | Sony And Warner Hold Out On Aussie ITunes

“Apple is working to expand iTunes and plans to open up an Australian version of its iTunes online music store Oct. 3, according to people familiar with the negotiations.”

As I’ve said before, it is imperative that Apple hold out for the best deal for consumers. If us Aussies only get half an iTMS, so be […]
