Cricket Trivia: Bigger Wickets Beat Bradman

Don Bradman - the greatest batsman cricket has ever seen - grew up playing cricket guarding a set of stumps 27 inches high and spaced across eight inches.

Just as his international career as a Test batsman was taking off in 1930-31, the stumps were changed to 28×9. That is a full 17% increase. Quite a significant increase in the size of the target.

When we consider that the great Don was just 4 runs short of a perfect 100 career batting average and in his last innings (although if not for Arthur Morris’s big century, he would have got another crack at the 100), it is quite ironic that he was out… bowled.
