21 days to form a habit?

Some nong somewhere reckons it takes 21 days to form a habit. That is, if you do something for 21 days straight, it will become a habit. Pfft!

I’ve stuck to my goal of writing at least one post a day on each of QwertyRash, Go Play AV and CrossOSS, for over 21 days now, but I’m still tempted to skip a day. I’m still too busy and I could break the habit tomorrow. I don’t because of the commitment, not the habit.

I’ve been showering every day for the many, many years, but that hasn’t meant that I haven’t skipped days. If it was a habit, I wouldn’t skip it.

I’ve always reckoned if it takes 21 days to form a habit, it only takes one day to break it. So was it really a habit? A true habit should be hard to break.

Don’t get fooled into thinking you just have to do something for 21 days and then it will be smooth sailing. Because that’s when it’s easiest to stop.

It takes commitment and goals that motivate you.
