Blogging tips - Newspaper’s “objective” review of blogging services
The Age newspaper in Melbourne Australia, provided a rather lightweight review of blogging services. Only four were reviewed. It seemed the writer did not want to jeopardize the desired outcome.
Blogger and WhitePage are both free and easy-to-use. These services would suit people who are new to blogging. However, for anyone looking for a reliable, professional-quality service, it is hard to go past SmartyBlog. Its package has been squarely designed for the blogger who means business for just $10 a month with your own domain.
SmartyHost’s - provider of SmartyBlog, their “hard to go past” choice - is an Australian host. As much as it’s nice to support the locals, blogging is not about international boundaries. SmartyHost are the same crowd who last year ran a rather shoddily run competition to find Australia’s best blog. There was much criticism of the process to find the winner, even from within the judging panel.
Recently the winner’s site was listed as a must see site by this newspaper- despite a large majority of bloggers and other web-surfers being quite unimpressed. And now we just happen to find them recommending the same company who ran that competition.
It doesn’t smell good…
There’s plenty more blogging options out there besides the four listed and any “blogger who means business” would be insane not to seriously look at as many options as possible. ProBlogger.net is an ideal starting point for anyone new to blogging, and anyone even more serious than that, should give Performancing.com a look.
