Changing brains
On Wednesday last, when I had to do my weekly column for Apple Matters, I procrastinated badly on it. Suddenly found heaps of other “important” things to do.
The oddity of all this was I’d already written 80% of it. I just need to tidy it up, linking arguments and thoughts together and so on.
For the previous week, a lot of my time has been spent developing a demo site for my kid’s school. This is generally interesting and stimulating.
Was I procrastinating because I had to change brains. I had to go from the open creative problem solving, to the focused, editing, tidying up brain. That’s a part of it.
I’m not a good finisher anyway. Finishing is the work part. I rather working with inspiration, not perspiration - despite what Edison said.
Sometimes it helps to understand. Because sometimes part of the procrastination process is trying to work out why you’re procrastinating! Isn’t that a laugh?!
Anyway, I’m off to change brains again. Time to do some more menial writing.
