CNN | Military to go to New Orleans - Are we one step from savages?
You read some of the stories and realise for our civilization, we are still but one step away from savages.
This is a theory I’ve had for a long time, that under the wrong conditions, we would resort to primal behaviour. And sadly, many in the Hurrricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans, are proving the theory.

In fact, I believe it’s our over-civilization that has caused this. We have millions and millions of urbanised westerners who have lost the knowledge of self-sufficiency.
Maybe that is why we didn’t hear stories like this after the Indonesian Tsunami last year. Maybe those people still knew how to feed themselves and how to use natural resources, rather than resorting to guns and looting.
If your city was cut off from the world, lost all electricity, gas and communications - would you know how to feed yourself without looting supermarkets or neighbour’s gardens?
