Five figure Blogging - a resolution

There’ s plenty of talk about six figure blogging on the internet. Well and good. But really, as goals go, is that realistic and achievable? Setting goals too high is a sure fire path to failure. You need in between goals.

For example, the athlete aiming to win gold at the olympics, has lesser goals to achieve first, such as winning gold at his national championships.

I have little goals for my blogging income. Things as simple as earning a dollar a day, then $10 a day etc. Plus I have a goal to be always growing it. Which achieving, with my income quadrupling in the past couple of months.

And of course, I have the income replacement goal. This for me is about five figures, not six, although not $10,000 even thought that would replace my current income (unemployment benefits). Income replacement for me is when I don’t have to look for a job. That’s more in the order of $40,000.

One thing I’ve learned watching other bloggers, is if you keep doing it, it grows. Provided of course you do it smart and right. And there’s plenty of help and guidance in that regard, the best being Darren Rowse’s ProBlogger.

The only other really important thing you have to do, is to expect failure. Not outright failure. Just little one’s along the way. Days, weeks and even months where it seems to and maybe does, go backwards.

So if you can get to five figures, six figures will take care of itself. Six figures is stage 2. Five figures is a job. Six figures is a business. I’m looking to get the job right first.

So. Let’s all make resolutions now, not wait til New Years. Make a resolution of where your blogging will be, by the end of 2006. And it wouldn’t hurt to have a half way goal for around April/May as well. We’ll all meet back here at the end of 06 to report how we went. Good luck.
