Google Adsense - making them more eyecatching (updated)

Discovered this website which has a clever trick for making Google Adsense ads more eye catching

This guy showed a bit of ingenuity by carefully placing images beside his adsense to give the impression they are somehow related. Importantly, it draws the eye to the ad, and weirdly, feels like it ads credibilty to the links.

Check it out: Blog Spinner

UPDATE:

I have it on good authority that to place images nead Adsense, they must be separated by a border so as to distinguish between the ad and the images. But it would still work in that it draws the eye.

That’s a neat trick and I agree it draws great attention to the ads.

However, I would be hesistant to do that from usability perspective. Beside I don’t want to turn off my reader by tricking them into clicking something they didn’t intend to.

Yeah, Pinyo, you’re right. I toned down the title as a result - took the word “trick” out.

It does raise the question of of what is reasonable. I notice Digital Point rotate the colors of their adsense, which I also find eye catching.

We do all try “tricks” to get the reader to click our adsense - the commonest one is using colors that match your site’s. - which does have the added value of just looking better too.

But what is reasonable - matching colors? rotating colors? images near adsense?
