Successfully moved a Wordpress blog to a different server

Moving a WordPress blog to a different server, on a different host, is something I’ve wanted to attempt for a while. Tonight I did it with almost 100% success. What’s more, I did it with my biggest blog - Go Play AV, my blog about portable entertainment players.

I didn’t of course move the domain and the only bug found so far is the themes aren’t displaying. Will have to look into that.

The process though - after a couple of failed attempts - is quite straight forward. Like every good computer nerd, I tried it on my own first… then I read the manual. :) The WordPress Codex has good information on moving servers. Read it if you plan to.

I did have problems with my host’s mysql restore only restoring the database not the tables, which I then did through the PHPAdmin. I also had to create a user for the MySQL database.

If anyone ever wants more info, just contact me. But basically, I just did what the Codex said.
