Towards 200

Darren Rowse at ProBlogger is asking fellow bloggers to write up their blogging goals.

That is not an easy thing to do. There’s a power in making your goals public. There’s an extra level of commitment. No longer do you get to fail in the privacy of your own home, where no one ever has to know except yourself. The last time I stated a goal publicly, it made me get up at 6am every day for 6 weeks to finish the first draft of a novel. Sheesh! Why would I be so mad as to go public again?

Because it works. As that example proved to me.

So here now, I put myself up for public humiliation. This post is titled “Towards 200″ because my overall goal is $200 per week from blogging. It’s not a goal I’m going to put a time limit on yet - so it’s not really a goal, more an objective.

But, there are other goals I need to be setting now to lay the foundations for achieving that goal. And they are the goals that are about doing something, and doing it often.

This year I’m doing a writing course so my time is limited but I should be making time to post once per day to each of my blogs. Then, at the end of the year when I can ramp up my time, I won’t be starting from near zero.

I operate three main blogs

- QwertyRash (this one as you’d plainly see!)
- Go Play AV (a reference site for people seeking news and reviews of portable entertainment devices)
- CrossOSS (A site promoting cross platform software)

So as I said, my goal now, for you all to hear and humilate if I fail, is to write (at least) one post per day on each of those sites for the remainder of 2006. That’s three measly posts per day.

Good luck to you! Now you know at least one person saw your post and will help hold your feet to the fire. (P.S. The white on light gray is hard to read in the comment form labels)

Good luck with that goal. I have approximately the same, which is 5 post per day (on my 5 differents blogs). I find it quite hard as one of them start getting boring and the content is not as high quality I would like it to be (new technologies). For 2 of them, I have set a 500 minimum word quota, and for the last 2, it’s up to me. That makes it a 1400+ word per day which is quite a lot in my opinion, but possible.
