Journal of a Blogger: When the net is down - get productive.

Oh oh. It’s happened. My intravenous drip to the world, the internet, is down. How will I survive? The last time this happened it last well over half a day. Initially I got anxious, almost cold sweats, then started to feel a calmness descend as i felt the chains loosening.

Today will be different. Today I will take advantage of this freedom from information, and create a bit of my own. I’ll write all those posts I’ve started for this site. I’ll write some for my other site - Go Play AV; I’ll draft the job application; I’ll prepare early for the cartooning course I’m giving at my kid’s school.

Without the distraction of the internet, I’ve got so much more productive time available. A lot of my time on the internet is activity, not productivity.

To borrow from the The Beatles

What would you do if the ‘net went down?
Would you stand up and walk out of the room?

That’s what else I should do. There’s certainly plenty of housework to do.

The internet is such a time waster. Not deliberately. It’s like the newspaper. If you sit down each morning and read the newspaper cover to cover, it can easily consume an hour of your time. The internet is the same. Not that I read it cover to cover. :)

It’s nice when it’s down.
