WordPress plugin for Customizing Chitika keywords using categories

Dare I release this upon the world as I know as soon as I do, it will suddenly be broken? That’s what programs do. They’re best mates with Murphy’s Law. But of course, I shall…

I have developed a plugin for WORDPRESS to enable you to use the post’s categories as the Chitika eMiniMalls (sponsored link) keywords. It can use all, one or the first one. And is very useful for those with product blogs in particular, to get an ad that matches the post.

Use within The Loop
Currently it only works within The Loop tho I will develop it more as time permits. If you want to do some fancy stuff like use search engine terms and daily keyword rotation (which work both inside and outside The Loop), visit Chitika Tips.

Also, I use this plugin within a condition statement that only places the ad after the first post - which works well as I don’t need any special code for a single post page. It uses a $postcounter variable and checks if it’s post number 1 on that page. The Chitika ad at the foot of the page is just a standard one. If anyone wants more explanation on how to do the post counter, let me know.

Getting Started
To get started, unzip the downloaded zip file and copy the chitika_keywords folder to your WordPress plugins folder. In the Plugins Admin panel, activate the Chitika Keywords plugin and then click on the readme.html link for instructions.

Download chitika_keywords.zip

On this site, I use Chitika ads the normal way, so to see the plugin in action, visit my other site, www.goplayav.com, a site dedicated to news and reviews of Portable Entertainment devices. On that site, it is configured to use a single category.

If you want to stay up-to-date with development, check back here from time to time, or drop me an email (address is in the readme)

Hope it helps.

    DataFeedFile.com has a Chitika alternative…

I found this site because I was kind of po when I received a rejected email from Chitika… so I went searching for alternatives.

Chitika turned me down due to not enough traffic on my blog. Fortunately I found a similar service based on a much more fair and open market. DataFeedFile.com is a similar service with much more options and banner sizes to choose from.

What I like about DataFeedFile.com is they allow you to choose what merchant to display products for. DataFeedFile.com seems to be a colaboration of hundreds of merchants from the affiliate industry. Check them out yourself, http://www.DataFeedFile.com.

    Hello!

I installed Wordpress on my server, and set up a site. It’s a relly nice piece of software. However, I am missing a piece of functionality, and

couldn’t find a suitable answer for it. Mayou you know a plugin I could use?I need to automatically inserts ads in my posts. And not AdSense ads, but rather HTML snippets defined by me (affiliate links, etc). Let’s say I would insert a tag in my post:
    – ad here –
and the plugin would automatically replace it with some HTML code, when the post is displayed on my site.I really don’t need any fancy configuration options etc, just the basic replace functionality.
Do you know a plugin that can handle this?

    Hi Lil.

One you might try is SH-Autolink. In posts and comments, it transforms predefined words automatically into hyperlinks.

For example, if I type CrossOSS or ProBlogger or sh-autolink plugin, it automatically converts them to the link I’ve defined.

    The link is: http://www.rockschtar.de/wp-plugin-sh-autolink/

Lil, it also means if you drop an affiliate, you just remove that link from the SH-Autolink, and it will no longer display a link. So you don’t have to go thru every post and change it. Cool, eh?!

It works with words or phrases, but it only works with URLs, so is only good for affiliate links probably.

Have a look on http://wp-plugins.net/ for alternatives. If I think of anything, I’ll let you know.

    Hello,
Just wondering if anyone could help. I did something stupid and started my blog using a numerical archive system, and now I'd like to change it so that the post title is part of the URL for SEO reasons. Is there any Wordpress plugins that anyone knows of that could switch it without sending Googlers to invalid pages? Maybe some sort of redirector to the correct page?

    Thanks.

[…] I’m not surprised it got through. It’s a totally legit question relating to Wordpress (though not very related to the specific post it was under…). The only “spammy” element is the commenter’s URL, which let to an extremely spammy site (update: err… and the fact that he commented to two different posts using different names — damnit). When I saw that, I did a quick Google Search of a sentence from the comment, and came up with a single hit: another blog that had three copies of the comment with different names attached. Yep. That would be spam then. […]

Does anyone know the name of the wordpress plugin that creates a list of your posts in a category instead of just displaying them one after the other? I want it so that when someone clicks on a category they just get a list of posts from that category.

I'm sure Ive seen one…and sifting through the WP site is a nightmare

I am glad to post my views and points in this blog, but I must say that webmaster of this blog has done a very great job to make his blog more informative and more discussable but unfortunately everthing is same here that more than 80% in this and other blogs post their comments for making spam!!!, so i will really all this spam links to google band tool, because webmaster makes blogs for making discuss and for sloving each other problems. thanks http://www.gordoniihoodia.net

After what seems like forever (but is really only 4 days) my v7ndotcom elursrebmem entry finally ranks, coming in somewhere between 25 and 30 depending on what ranking tool and data center you happen to be using (SERP). However now that every SEO on the planet has a blog I thought I might cruise around the blogosphere and see how blogs are being used in the contest. http://www.bigpenispill.net

Well that’s 10 entries from blogland maybe we’ll visit some others as the contest progresses, gosh May seems far away doesn’t it? Lastly thanks to folks who helped spread the word about my giving the contest prize money to charity, and to all the folks who linked to me, here’s hoping we can turn something completely silly into something good that actually helps somebody, who needs the money much more than most of the people competing. http://www.big-breast-enlargement.com

I cannot completely commit to Camp 1 as I do think there are times, and situations, where users have to take responsibility for their own choices. For example, if someone choses to remain on dialup when higher speed connections are available, and within their reach, I do not think I should be obliged to design with their free choice in mind. If they choose to stay with an older browser rather than upgrade, why should I have to take that into account? To do so would constrain design and possibly compromise the experience of others for no good reason. http://www.vigrx.com/?a=getlook

My main concern is that you can’t guarantee every page of your website will be included in the SERPs. Considering I’m constantly adding new products to my company’s website, I need to be sure that customers can find them as soon as possible.http://www.seoptimizerz.com

@lil wyte I am wanting to do the exact same thing, did you ever get an answer to this? You asked: (I need to automatically insert ads in my posts. And not AdSense ads, but rather HTML snippets defined by me (affiliate links, etc).

@Editor, your suggested plugin does not help me. I need both text and links and they need to be permanent. Can you or anyone help me with this?
I don’t really need a plugin, the file I need to call is php. I just need to know which file to edit and where to place the call.

    Thanks,
    Jas.
