WordPress recommended plugin: SH-Autolink
Ahhh! Don’t you just love it when something comes along that truly adds value to your blog? SH-Autolink is one such tool.
It automatically, on the fly, converts keywords or phrases in your posts to web links. For example, if I type Go Play AV, you will see it as a link to my other blog. If I type ProBlogger, you’ll see it as a link to my favorite blog.
And it doesn’t matter how you created the post. SH-Autolink works on what’s displayed to the user - it doesn’t insert any code into your post. I create my posts using Ecto and it works perfectly with it.
Oh, and it supports creation of http, https, ftp and email protocol links.
Now, I just realised something ultra cool… It means you can ad keywords at anytime, and ALL posts will recognize them. So linked all my posts now that mention ProBlogger will be auto linked - even if I wrote them 2 years ago (not that I’ve been blogging that long) How cool is that?!
Now I’ve just noticed it over rides other coded links on your page. For instance, if I have a Technorati link to WordPress, it substitutes the autolink I’ve set up for WordPress. But links, such as the Taggerati generated ones, it doesn’t. This might cause unexpected behaviour in your links. Eg, If I type Click here to go to the WordPress blogging site, you’d see “Click here to go to the” as a link to www.wordpress to com, and WordPress linked to www.worpress.org, and “blogging site” as plain text.
Consequently I’ve removed WordPress from my list of autolinks.
Will have to contact the developer and see if he can detect when a keyword is already a link.
So use wisely - maybe there’s some keywords you just won’t be able to autolink.

I’ve found an unusual use for SH-autolink, which is to use it for references. By creating bibliographic posts and assigning an autolink to them you can reference a working simply by typing (Author Year)–just like you would in an academic paper. You can see more of what I mean (and some examples) here.
