The Qwertyrash Blogs

A bit of everything: blogging, technology, writing, musings, sport and humor

What’s in a name?

Names can be fascinating things. What effect do they have on who we are? I’ve noticed quite a few times, a person’s name reflects what they do. So, for fun I’ve started making a list of real people I’ve come across, whose last name reflects their occupation

*Mr Ball - Footballer
*Mr Carr - Automotive designer
Ms Beachly - World champion surfer
Mr Lamb - Spokesperson for Meat and Livestock Commission
Ms Reiners - Equine student
Ms Pears - Scientist, author, expert on fruit and vegetable growing.
Ms Goto - Workflow, process and iterative design expert (For those who haven’t learnt computer programming, GOTO is a flow control command)
Mr Wiseman - Professor of psychology

Reader Trevor Hempel submitted these four, and says “Some time ago I knew these real people”:

Mr. Driver in charge of Driver Education
Mrs McLean - A school cleaner
Mrs. Brushnahan - Another school cleaner
Mrs. Grimes - Yet another school cleaner.

Mr Caterer - Publican/Hotelier
Ms Roots - Environmental Scientist
Mr Poe - Poet
Mr Crum - Invented potato crisps
Mr Moneymaker - Accountant (and very successful poker player)
Mr Bell - Inventor of the telephone
Ms Dewsnap - Photographer
Ms Splatt - Drag car racing champion
Mr Wordsworth - Writer
Mr Stock - Chairman of the Shareholder’s Association
Mr Page - Invented Google’s web page indexing

As I come across more, I’ll re-issue this post with the date of update.
The asterisk represents those added since last update.

Let us know any you’ve seen and I’ll add them to the list. No made up one’s though. And to help protect the privacy of the individual, no first names.

Cartoon: Naughty and Nice

Another entry for the Chewing Pencils competition. It’s probably better. The previous one’s a bit too subtle I think.

Cartoon: Is Santa Real?

Chewing Pencils is running a little competition to draw a Christmas themed cartoon that features the word “blog”. It does close on Now 5th though if you’re keen.

After scratching my head for a week and procrastinating because I had assignments to do (woohoo! two weeks to go!), I finally scribbled something down. I drew it using Rita with a Wacom graphics tablet and finished it (text and frames) using Plasq’s Comic Life.

The Dilbert Blog is here!

A recent posting was on one we can all relate to…One of the most common questions I get is “Do you ever get writer’s block?”The thing I love about that question is that it reveals a wonderful optimism in the person who is asking.

Welcome to the new look Qwertyrash

Given an excess of time, desire and obsessiveness, I have ported the QwertyRash blogs from their old blog system (Nucleus), to WordPress.
I am a big fan of Nucleus and highly recommend it. My only reason for porting was a need to become conversant in WP and PHP. Further, my host seemed to have more problems […]
