What is art?

Can anyone declare a work to be art? Short answer of course is yes. However most people agree there’s a line between what can be rightfully called art and what really is crap. But who gets to decide where that line is. Personally, I draw that line such that a lot more of what is claimed to be art, falls on the crap side of the line.

And I saw a funny phrase today: Art fair.

Funny because it’s an an anagram of “fart air”. Which I reckon a lot of art is.

OHS: Occupational Hell and Sanity

Doctors get shown boils on hairy bums; Computer nerds get bailed up over what computer to buy; people in movies or TV get the “I’ve got a great idea for a…”; mechanics get pestered with the question about why cars never make that clunking sound when they’re around; and so on through every occupation. God help us what prostitutes are asked – or shown! For a writer, it can take the form of the eternal question all creative people are badgered with: “Where do your ideas come from?”.
